I wouldn't be nearly as well up on the whole Muay Thai scene flea, but ive heard about this. Watched a cracking documentary a few months back on the sport, cant remember what it was called, but it was from the late 90's and on youtube I think. Showed all the aspects of the muay thai culture over in Thailand, the traditions, and the careers of fighters a top Lumpini fighter to a young novice just beginning his career. Its effectively a way out of poverty for a lot of these kids isn't it? Join a camp, work hard, fight your way up and make as much money as you can from a young age.

Its nuts how tough some of these kids are at 10, 11 or whatever age. No headguard, full contact knee and elbow strikes, they must be hardened veterans by the time there their late teens. Boxing must feel like a soft sport to a muay thai covert

Aye, its you'd be hard pressed to fine a better doucmentary on from recent years on boxing. Away from the glamour and acclaim of an Olympic podium, this is where the all the hard work is done. The lads in the doc effectely give up a normal childhood to train, eat and live like professionals effectively, when some aren't even teens yet. And yet it doesn't just focus on their boxing careers, but the personalities and dreams of the lads and the trainers themselves. Make's it all that more real. An inspiring, and emotional look at the same time into Cuba's boxing culture.

Yeah are hardened veterans by their teens yes, usually done by mid-20s (certainly in the golden age they were) with fighters in their early 30s seen to be dinosaurs.

Way I was told it, the best fighters are in their early-to-mid-teens. Being able to learn and absorb stuff more when you're young. As the numbers tally up and they grow into their man strength (put it this way, the P4P no.1 is 33, Saenchai, no.2 is 16, Yodwicha, and they're fighting next week!) they develop more into specialists.

Hundreds of fights, with many against the very best opposition according to your ranking.

The idea is for you to be damn good in your region (primarily Issan, north east rural impoverished Thailand, ethnic Laosians and Cambodians, or down South) and get scouted by one of the big Bangkok gyms. You then move away from your family to provide for them.

And yet Muay Thai converts have brought the quickest professional World champ' ever, innumerable World titlists, and an Olympic Gold medallist. Not bad.

Went as expected.

The whole undefeated thing aside, Floyd's longevity is probably the most impressive thing about him. I've never considered him to be one of those total freak talents - a Roy Jones or Pernell Whitaker - but he's the level right below those guys and he's maintained a standard of excellence for a long time now. His consistency and dedication to his craft is rather unique.

I'm really becoming a fan of Abner Mares, as well. Excellent, fun fighter who is really seeking out top competition.

No doubt. I'd rate him over Martinez right now, actually.

I'm not impressed by the 'consistency' of 4o-odd fights in over 15 years.
