Just remember, 5 years ago according to experts like Rogan and Bas, the jab was useless in MMA. Well the fighters themselves have finally realized that it can be used to great effect (GSP), there is no reason why they can't tighten up their boxing technique in other areas. Despite not dedicating all their time to boxing, they can still improve and their is no need to defend shitty striking.

Take the best most well rounded strikers in MMA today and place them in the division in terms of how good they are. Boxing is not everything in Striking!

Joe Rogan is a commentator mate, he is a man who is paid to deliver a package to the neutrals, he knows martial arts and has been watching MMA for a very long time, yes he knows a thing or two about the sport but the guy is a TV presenter, lets say what he says is designed for a certain type of individual, I would label that individual a naive uneducated fan of the sport. translated to "the man on the street".

Does GSP turn his fist over and step into a jab to pierce his opponents guard and set up combinations?

He invented the super man jab mate goes back to my original point, striking for MMA

What's Bas excuse? He would use that point about the jab all the time in commentary and interviews. It was a crock of shit and a lot of martial arts ego. There is no reason why JDS should loop that right hand, if anything it is easier to counter that with a takedown since he telegraphs it so much, a nice fast short right makes a lot more sense. But hey, JDS already thinks that he can take on the Klitchkos, even after getting dropped by a light punching Cain, no reason to improve then.

This is like that old video of Chuck teaching students his looping right hand which worked for awhile against wrestlers but eventually his opponents made an adjustment and it got Chuck knocked out because in the end it was always poor technique despite all his previous success. MMA fighters need to humble themselves a bit and train with legit boxing pro's (ino a lot do already), that doesn't mean that they have to try on the shoulder roll like King Mo and look stupid, but just learn the fundamentals better.

Different strokes for different folks, horses for courses. 2 guys standing up trading punches in an mma octagon wearing mma gloves under mma rules is so not boxing.

There you go; I hope you realize that Hunt is 39 years old by now ...

Overeem was helped to his K-1 title when they put an injured teammate in the semi's so that at least one Golden Glory fighter would end up in the final. Aerts eliminted Schilt for Overeem and was no match for the unnatural power of Overeem.

Anyways, they are different sports. K-1 was great, unfortunately most people have no clue about the sport.

Dos Santos will be knocked out by anyone who can land hard on him, his chin hangs in the air whenever hes backing up or circling. Hunt is 39, sluggish and about 7/8 years removed from his prime, so that wasnt a good win, it was a good knockout though.

Anyone who says Hunt isnt a better puncher technically than Dos Santos really needs to start watching QVC. He turns over hooks properly, he throws everything really well... He just doesnt have the legs to get inside with a guy 10 years his junior.

I was going to say he was 39 when I saw this comment too. Hunt was 27 years old when he won his K1 title.

Dos Santos was just too fast for him, and Hunt didn't kick him in the leg enough to slow down his movement. That could be for fear of being taken down, so I understand his reluctance.

Please enlighten the forum and tell us how many times Junior Dos Santos has been taken down

Highlighted in yellow is everything worthy of a post, in this forum, on this subject!

Please see above the feedback on this topic and take note (in particular Peter_1987), boxing fans and pure boxing practitioners do not understand the dynamics of striking for MMA because in boxing wrestling is not allowed. Therefore no need to adjust for that double, or single, or clinch, or knee, or leg kick, or high kick, or any other eventuality that you may be faced with in a mixed matrial arts contest.

Its not boxing mate, its MMA

I don't think they were sloppy for MMA standarts and JDS looping hand is so dangerous because it is a looping hand it's just like Lidell's overhand coming from above which makes it harder to block it lands like a streight punch would which means you can block it by simply putting your fists on the side of your face. The octagon favours JDS since you can't really cut it off in a ring it would have been a lot uglier for JDS. And I agree that K-1 level is just not as high as boxing or even MMA (in the UFC) today since it's less popular and you don't make nearly as much money

I'm not bashing Hunt or any MMA fighters striking. I just find it annoying and inaccurate that all pre fight analysis (mainly from Rogan) seems to go: 'Fighter A was in K1 so has far better striking than fighter B' The results do not back this up yet they trot it out pre fight time and time again.

Same with Overeem. All the talk is of his elite striking game but Cain landed a short, accurate shot right on Bigfoots jaw in a minute and Overeem couldn't in 2 rounds and we all know what happened in the 3rd.

Reality is a good career in K1 only prepares you for MMA slightly more than a good career in boxing would. It is a factor but way overplayed imo.

Look at all these 12 year olds don't know shit, talking crap about Hunt lol. Guy is nearly 40 years old, I been watching K1 and MMA since you were little runts running around with your teletubbies.

Yeah, I grew up with He man and Gi Joe. Go **** yourselves.
