Default Ray Hatton's views on Lazcano + a possible Mayweather rematch

Ricky Hatton's father Ray has warned that Juan Lazcano is a far tougher opponent than the Mexican is being given credit for in this country.
The 33-year-old will fight Ricky Hatton at the City of Manchester Stadium on Saturday night.
"He does come to fight. He's very dangerous," the Manchester boxer's father told BBC Radio Merseyside:
"A lot of the (American) pundits think that for his comeback fight he (Hatton) has picked too hard an opponent."
The Lazcano fight is Hatton's first since suffering the first defeat of his professional career to Floyd Mayweather last December.
His father says he would like the chance to avenge that tenth round knock-out.
"It is a possibility, they're (the Mayweather camp) very, very keen on it.
"Ricky has always said he would prefer to fight Floyd Mayweather again, on an even playing-field. "If Mayweather beat him he would have to hold his hands up and say the better guy beat me."

Any rematch would be likely to take place at Welterweight although Hatton is a natural Light-Welterweight.

The Mancunian has struggled in his previous two fights at the heavier weight, labouring to victory over Luis Collazo and losing to Mayweather.
"You wouldn't get Floyd to come down any less than 147," added Ray Hatton. "I think Floyd would say I'm the Champion at 147 and if you want me again, you're going to have to come up to me. I'm not going to come down to you."

I'll have to ask my local carpet fitter what he thinks of the fight.

err I think the general consensus was that he picked a very easy opponent! It's all about spin with the Hattons.

Yep, they really mar the otherwise squeaky clean world of professional boxing promoters...

I have not heard anyone any where say that Lazcano is an hard opponent. Most have said he is a good gimme fight for Hatton to come back with and some have said Lazcano should not be fighting Hatton at all.

If Lazcano, inactive for well over a year and coming off a loss, is too hard an opponent, what does that say about Ricky Hatton? Lazcano was picked precisely because he poses no threat.

I passed no comment on Bradley before he fought Witter because I'd never seen him fight. I've never seen Lazcano fight either so I've got no real opinion on this match-up.

When Freddy-Wak was asking for questions for his show I asked him about Lazcano. Freddy-Wak seems to have a lot of knowledge of Mexican fighters and he had a good opinion of Lazcano and believes he has a good chance against Hatton

Thats very fair of you Joe. I think Lazcano is ideal for the job, he's put a fight on for a couple of rounds before getting worn down around the 6-8 th round.
