Default Jose Luis Castillo vs. Meldrick Taylor

Can a prime Castillo mimic Chavez's victory?

While Castillo has a similar style to Chavez he isn´t as good. So, i would say no and go with an UD for Taylor.

I'd say Castillo hits harder with single punches, honestly.

He's also a bigger man than Chavez.

Yes he is but he also isnīt as relentless and intense as Chavez was. And he isnīt in the same league in term of body punching and that is what lead to the downfall of Meldrick Taylor.

Castillo could be every bit as relentless as Chavez when Castillo was at his best, in my opinion.

Castillo was nowhere near as good as Chavez technically. Wasn't as poised either. He'd more than likely be thrown off by Taylor's handspeed and workrate, rather than working through it like Chavez was. Regardless of Castillo's slight size advantage over Chavez, he simply wasn't as good or technically sound.

Different class of fighter: Castillo - very good, Chavez - ATG. Chavez was surgical with his punches, especially to the body. He hurt guys bad. Some argue (not me) that Chavez didn't beat Taylor. Taylor by decision.

I say prime Taylor stops Castillo in the final round. Chavez was better defensively, much more accurate, better array of shots to throw, better at finding the holes between Taylor's insane fast punches than Castillo would be. Plus, Meldrick dominated Chavez in the first 8 rounds and should have been a few points ahead up until the stoppage (which I agree with).

I struggle to see Castillo winning a round. Perhaps he bags one or two late.

No, he'd drop a decision. Pretty wide one at that: prime Taylor was a fantastic fighter.

I agree with all of those saying Castillo was a class below Chavez, and Castillo would be using the same strategy.

Taylor is too good & fast for JLC, look how long it took the much superior JCC to find Taylor.

15 rds would not even be enough for JLC to catch MT, in fact, I think Taylor TKOs Castillo (doctor stoppage) before vice versa.

Taylor would blitz Castillo for that UD.
