Re: Chris Leben in UFC 1
Teila Tuli -- Leben beats him with strikes, especially since Teila would be difficult to take down.
Gerard Gordeau -- Gordeau may have just enough takedown defense to stop Leben from getting a takedown, and he beats Leben standing. Really depends on just how good Leben's wrestling is.
Kevin Rosier -- If Leben strikes with him, Rosier has a ghost of a chance. Otherwise, Leben creams him.
Zane Frazier -- Same as Rosier. Most likely, both guys get clobbered by Leben.
Royce Gracie -- He had a way of forcing the fight to the ground, even against better wrestlers (Shamrock, Kimo, Ichihara, Pardoel, Severn). Likely he would do the same with Leben, and when on the ground his superior BJJ will probably secure him the victory.
Ken Shamrock -- Not an ideal candidate against Leben (bad takedowns, bad striking), but I feel that his superior size, toughness, and decent wrestling + great grappling would be enough to get him the victory somehow.
Art Jimmerson -- Leben would not be stupid enough to strike with Jimmerson. He takes him to the ground and submits or ground n' pounds him. Jimmerson's corner throws in the towel early.
Patrick Smith -- Smith didn't have enough of a takedown defense at this point to stand up to Leben, and I don't think that Leben would strike with him. (If Leben does strike with Smith, he loses).
So, Leben probably beats half of the competitors in the tournament--losing to Shamrock, Gracie, and probably Gordeau.
