How was Gibbons performing before he got DQ'ed?

Was it a desperation tactic?

He was said to winning the fight according to the day-afters from the NY Times, Washington Post, etc., but "accidently" landed a right hand below Miske's beltline soon after the 10th round began, which Miske was not able to recover from.

No, not a desperation tactic, at all, from what I gather.
