Default Australia's Greatest EVER World CHAMP ?

With Vic moving up to bantamweight, if he is successfull in winning a third weight division , he equals Jeff Fenech's record of three weight divisions and he has already surpassed Kostya's record of being a Unified champ and also being a multi division winner something Kotya never achieved.
Fenech never unified any division.

This will be Vic's fifth fight within 15 months and his activity is unheard of, will it also be somesort of record to Mainevent on Showtime four times within ONE year. Our boys on FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!

What are your opinions ??

Cant disagree mate.

Vic career is still on the road to better things. Khodder is obviously not his manager... thank god. His achievements have been fantastic, although arguements will ensure from a select few.

Losing the IBO/IBF Flyweight titles to Nonito Donaire and not rematching is a disapointment at this stage. His frequent, dominant defences of those titles was enough to show his greatness. Claiming the SFLY/W division in its entirety proved his dominance at this division.

Should Vic obtain the 3 major belts in the B/W division, his achievements will outweigh those of any Aust fighter.

The lack of press, regarding Vic is a terrible thing. He's a great ambasador for this country, as well as his own. His profile in the USA is greater than that of any other Australian fighter, perhaps ever. As much as I'd like to see him fight here in Oz... he should continue kicking butt in the USA. He calls Australia home... thats good enough.

Weight jumping in this day in age is not what people are trying to make out..You are often challenging for 1/4 of the championship in a world where there are more then twice as many weight divisions as there was when pugilists starting donning the gloves under the Marquess' directives.

To say what Vic had done is more significant than a guy like Lionel Rose is unfair considering that Lionel could only challenge for the unified title in an era where much of the talent from the modern jnr bantam and super bantam divisions would have been residing at his weight.

Thats why you have to go on opposition faced..Vic is getting there but he is still a fair distance off the best we have produced and going for 1/4 of the championship against arguably the weakest champ at the weight right now wont be seeing him close to gap significantly in my eyes.

An achievement worthy of great praise though and I hope he gets his accolades in the oz media which have thus far been pretty lame, because Vic has well and truly earnt it.

W.a.R, this is exactly what I was waiting for. When Carruthers and Rose won the Bantam title in '52 and '68 respectively, there was no mid-way title either side of Fly to Feather. Basically, these guys are the standard of todays 3 time world champs. These guys are both worthy of higher accolades than Fenech, Vic etc etc. Taking the crown, at a time with the common weights being most prevalent, their own achievements are quite amazing. Both Lionel and JImmy were accepted as singular champions... Legitimate title Holders.

Fammo taking the Feather crown in '69, at the time the SF/W or JL/W title had been in place for 48 years... so a little agruement can prevail.. when comparing the paper work involved.. Still, Fammo took the WBC Feather crown.

A hell of a lot more comes into this equation, other than the 2 paragraphs Ive written.

For Vic to move into the Bantam Div. and claim it universally, his achievements must be placed on the shelf, alongside those of Rose and Carruthers. The achievements will outweigh those of any Australian fighter, performance based, and on paper. Logically, agruements will still be raised..

Had Lionel taken Numatas title in '74??, Vic would have a lot more work in front of him, to compete for room on the mantle with Lionel.

Regardless, I'm certain Lionel is still the far superior of both fighters, and would have dealt with Vic very easily.

Good points flame.

Im not trying to bash the modern era by the way at all, to anyone who thinks I may be. Im just trying to put things into perspective.

To say "3 time 2 division champion" sounds great for the ring intro but it isnt necessarily a better achievement then what some of the old boys achieved..quite often even the ones that didnt even win a title.

Belts mean very little to me, In my eyes Vic still has a long way to catch guys who didnt even win a title . Sands and Darcy. Rose winning the world tiotle at the age of 19 was unbelievable.
If the titles were still the same today as back in them day, Could you see Vic being able to beat either Rose or Curruthers at 118. I cant and id say he gets stopped by both.

I doubt he has the anything near the goods of Rose. Curruthers is a better mix for Vic.
He'd walk over Gattelari, and give Salvatore Barruni a serious headache IMO.

Satoshi Shiniaki would go back to Japan in a box. An easy fight at bantam for Vic.

On paper, Vic achievements are great. Nothing can be taken from him. Hopefully more of the iceberg will be exposed in the coming 12 months.

From a country of relatively small population, particularly going back in the early and mid 1900's, it's great that we've got a spread of champs to 'argue' about.

Titles won by our earlier champs were certainly in most cases more prestigious than some of the later ones. These days you really do need to win a few or a handful to be compared with earlier champs who won pre-alphabet titles.

It's very difficult to compare a Darcy to a Lionel to a Vic. For mine Carrothers & Rose were very special. Fenech achieved plenty, as did Lester (and at a very young age).

We also had a great collection of Commonwealth title holders, some of whom were probably better than some of our later 'world' champs.
