he is an arrogant man trying to be nice. but yeah toney wins this at supermiddlewieght chris as awkward as he is is beatable if you throw alot of punches and at super middle james threw alot of punches not 80+ but is throwing consistantly alot of punches. this is no discredit to chris though he was a great fighter wasnt talented but used his heart chin awkwardness and canny abilty to win. i think there are alot of fighters that chris can beat but toney was not as lathargic later in his career. |

Toney is so damn overrated here, I don´t know why. He won so many fights at MW viá SD who he should have lost (Tiberi, Johnson, etc.). Eubank proved at SMW that he was really world-class with his style. IMO he would have outpoint James to a close UD...
Eubank UD 12 Toney (7-5) |

true that is a great jab and was recognised in the greatest jab thread 5 or 6 times.he kinda sprung at you which was different it came at odd angles it was awkward and was stiff and could really bang for a jab. but remmebr that eubanks key weakness was stamina and though he went the distance it was usually becuase he got tired at the 7 round mark andhe would just move around not getting hit. james toney though has great ring movement and could read punches coming if they kept at a distance (ignore the roy jones cock trick it was a bad move for toney to put his chin out like that) both are good to great counterpunchers eubank relinng to hit you with a right uppercut while toney could hit you with anything or a combo of punches(look at the barkley fight )so what tactics and skills both men bring eubank has a great jab a crouching awkward style a right uppercut form hell and a very very sturdy chin almost all knockdowns were him of balence ala benn or shear amount of punches ala watson. so he has to be on the backfoot toney is a counterpuncher who works on the inside who will countepunch and slip/defend punches to not get hit. while being in close proximity.he has a good chin decent power and goos handspeed is it faster than chris...i think so. he could link his punches together really well throw any combo. he needs to be on the inside so he is the aggesor. chris will stay just out of reach from toney but keeping close so he can jab and move. james will cruise forward with a pawing jab looking to distance himself to use his shorter reach. when he gets close eubank will jab and move and it's here where chris will get caught slipping the hard jab and a right hand will get eubanks attention and james will work of demobilising the jab. but chris will move around be on the ropes and stay sweet.james will get him against the ropes and combinate punches mixing form body to head . eubank will defend but these will hit. 5-3 or around to eubank at round 8 but is losing stamina as toney's pressure and combos are making chris tire. so eubank will start running and stayin well away and toney will then throw the punches that will win the fight a big shift of workrate by toney that he does in the last few rounds would be perfect time to knock chris down. finish i see toney winning at around 2 to 3 points it's close but eubank isnt as accurate as toney. my thoughts

so he did have sub par performances becuase he could tire out and let the other fighter(what ever degree of class)take over. who was that guy the punching postman? got it tony thornton he didnt have great skill or talent(actually reminds me of a mix of hagler and glen johnson) but he has workrate and went foreward to keep hitting eubank and tire him out it was one sided but for 3 rounds it was all thornton same with lindell holmes in that holmes got some good combos (especially a right cross and double left hook in the 3rd) but was always on the end of jab and couldnt win enough rounds but then chris got tired and stayed well away. and lindell cameback but didnt win. it's this one flaw that phases his wins becuase losing 4 points on the cards doesnt look good on boxrec and looks like he lost them this is not the case he loke dbad but he always found a way to win. |
