Me too...

But Tyson was only at his peak before going off the rails after losing his mentor Gus D'amato...His power was awesome and he would not have tolerated Ali's holding the way Frazier and others had to endure because of poor referring.
Ali fought in the Golden Era of H W Boxing and had some fantastic skalps to his name ,and was without the undisputed H W champion after the second Frazier fight, but he was beatable as Joe Frazier,Leon Spinks & Ken Norton demonstated .

There are those who will always believe he was the greates but his excessive holding would not be tolerated now.Foreman dispatched Norton and Frazier with ease while Ali struggled against those two and a rematch against Foreman would not have seen Foreman dumb enough to fall for those "rope a dope" tactics....the look on Ali's face at the end of Round 1 said it all..

Alas this topic has been done to death and I would say Ali is one of the top 6 A T greats of H W boxing, though I lost a lot of respect after his name calling of Joe Frazier after he helped him get his license to fight back.

Both at their very best the Ali who destroyed Cleveland "Big Cat" Williams and the Iron Mike Tyson that destroyed Michael Spinks then I would have to go for Ali over Tyson on clear points decision.

Ali.

Tyson always had some difficulty with very tall fighters. Ali was nearly 6'4" and was faster or hand or foot than anyone Tyson ever fought.

I must very respectfully disagree with Hoagy. Tyson was licked when he was in his physcial prime at 23 years of age, Ali never was beat until he was 30. All that Ali's losses demonstrated is that even legends get old.

ali would win because of his handspeed, footspeed, holding tactics, stamina, indurence and being able to keep tyson away by moving around the ring and not cutting it in half.

And also ask yourself could ali vs. douglas ali all the way

Ali for me. In addition to having the style and skills to beat Tyson he also has the mental strength, fortitude and adaptability to find and way to win when things were going against him which is something Tyson failed to demonstrate during his career.

Ali by late TKO for me.

Don't say I am biased because Tyson was the fighter that got me into boxing, plus I have a signed Tyson picture hung up in my bedroom.

Right now or in their primes? Na, in their primes I'm going for Ali- rope a dope all night long and takes Tyson out in the 14th- ooh to see those championship rounds nowadays!

i would look at it a different way

young tyson beats young Ali as Ali at this stage was slightly vunerable because his style needed for him to mature

Prime Ali clearly Beats Tyson, no one beats the Ali of 66-70 he was just a phenom at his prime, which i believe we didn't even see

washed up Ali beats Washed up Tyson

Ali wins 2-1 and the prime for prime which is what matters i guess
