IMHO that was a very popular way to look at things but since quantum theory and chaos theory showed that somethings are fundamentally not able to be predicted mathematically its a bit of a moot point.

Yes, what happens is able to be described mathematically, but due to Uncertainty Principle, unless you settle for probabilities of outcomes, only after the events have occured.....
