Olympic champion Rakhim Chakhkiev signs contract with Universum Box-Promotion

Promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl: „We simply had to get this Olympic champion! With Rakhim Chakhkiev we have signed a hard-hitting southpaw who boxes very attractively with a technically excellent and aggressive style."

The Olympic boxing Rakhim Chakhkiev has signed a promotional contract with Universum Box-Promotion.The Hamburg based boxing stable has secured the rights with this signing of one of the greatest talents and an international amateur standout fighter.

The 26 year old Russian Rakhim Chakhkiev won the gold medal at heavyweight at the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing. Chakhkiev defeated the Cuban Osmai Acosta Duarte clearly in the semi final before upsetting the highly regarded Italian Clemente Russo in the final.

With this Olympic gold medal Rakhim Chakhkiev extended his list of success which had its highlights at the European Youth Championships 2001, the Military World Championships 2006 and the silver medal at the World Championships 2007 in Chicago. During his amateur career he is well known for his who’s who list of amateur conquests in his weight division over the likes of Roman Romantschuk (RUS), Yoan Pablo Hernandez (CUB), Alexander Powernow (GER), Osmai Acosta Duarte (CUB) and Clemente Russo (ITA).

Rakhim Chakhkiev will join the training group of famed Universum trainer Michael Timm at the Universum Gym in Hamburg, and will campaign as a pro in the cruiserweight division.

He'd be a difficult guy to fight. He's a swarmer and throws a ton of punches too. May be a little short for today's bigger HW's. Still a damn shame about Romanchuk. What ever happened to Timurziev?

Good signing for Universum. It will be interesting to see third match final for six years with Russo.
