Default Michael Olajide

I don't recall ever actually seeing him fight. I saw on boxrec that he was stopped by Iran Barkley and lost a decision to Thomas Hearns. How good was he?

he looked pretty good on the way up but I don't think anyone was really fooled into thinking he was going to be the 'next big thing' at 160 after Hagler.

He was vastly over-hyped......... I'm sure he has fans that'll rush to his side, but don't let them fool you..... He choked against Franklin Tate in '87 for the vacant IBF 160 lb. title and was KO'd by Barkley a year later on NBC, and dropped a decision to Hearns at 168 in a dreadful HBO fight....... Olajide ran like a rabbit from Hearns in 1990....... Plus, Olajide always had that ****ed up eye of his..... His vision sucked... It didn't matter when he was beating up his list of bums and stiffs, but against world class dudes, Olajide was a lemon........

He wasnt a lemon but did fall short of what was expected of him.He beat soild opponents on his climb up the ranks but Tate just had his number. After the Tate loss Olajide was all but done from the world picture.

Sadly, you were wrong, I fell for the hype until Gold outshone Glitter and Tate beat him (I thought Frank was the real thing as well!)

The Olajide/Barkley fight was fun to watch purely for the fact Barkley dished out the mother of all ass kickings but for one split second, when Michael decked the blade. Barkley merely arose and carried on the beating.

He was pretty hyped. Way more flash than substance. He was favored over Frank Tate, but Tate completely outboxed, and battered him. Then he got TKO'd by Barkley in a wild fight, and from then his confidence was probably never the same.

Olajide was a highly touted fighter back in the 80's and a pretty good one. He just lacked that little extra something that he needed to go from being pretty good to great. He had skill, speed and toughness and was world class material but was a notch below the best.
