Yes, with superior skill, speed and stamina. We're talking brute strength here. I'm not saying Briggs were very skillful or fast and his stamina was shit, but if he was stronger than Marciano or not... Come on.

Bruno, Rahman etc could also be mentioned among the strongest. Valuev as well because of his sheer size.

These guys were all big, lifted weights and some (many?) of them in all probability took steroids. That will make you strong.

A bench press doesn't really tie in the upper body with the legs and hips.

I think, the best way to improve one's ability to push around guys in the ring is strangely enough pushing around guys in the ring.

A fighter like Foreman wasn't particularly weak anywhere. He was however heavily muscled in his hips .This gave him a low centre of gravity.

He used his strong calf, shin and feet muscles,as a base.

From this base,he would just lower his hips and using the muscle power there push an opponent, manouevring them-without losing his own balance.

The thing about Foreman when he fought Norton...Norton had the better build in terms of classic bodybuilding, and their standards, but Foreman was more massive (NOT fat), and looked STRONGER than Norton.
Yes, it looked like he quite easily imposed his physicality on Norton, and he was perhaps the only one of that generation of HWs who could do that.

And he was even stronger during his second career. He was just as physically imposing then, but against bigger and stronger HWs.

Was he the man in the clinches or moving around an opponent?

Certainly,if you're heavier you'll be harder to budge.Just look at sumo wrestlers.

Jeffries, Foreman, Firpo, Lewis, Holyfield, probably Sullivan

Maybe even Jack Johnson, although he was facing smaller opponents usually.

No we wasn't. Nobody gets stronger in their 40's. He was a fatass who could push lighter guys like a sumo (and was still immensly strong of course), but in no way was he (or anyone, ever) stronger than he was in his prime.

I think Max Baer could be mentioned here. Not sure about the strongest but no one certainly seemed to be pushing him around when he was fighting.

If they start lifting weights and haven't done it before they do.

(And he was in his late 30's when he started his comeback, not 40's.)

Any one who watches the Carnera v Louis fight in its entirety, will see that it was Louis who did the manhandling, even picking Carnera up of the ground at one point.
Also, watch Dempsey pick Firpo up after he had kod him, he lifts him up with ease.

If he had faced the muscled giants of the 90's I think he would have been pushed around plenty.

Baer actually faced plenty of big men.
Apart from Carnera he met
Cobb 220lbs
Wright 230lbs
And many men over 6' 3in including Santa 6' 81/2in 244lbs

He didn't seem to have trouble pushing around Carnera.

He punched, not pushed, Carnera around. I think Carnera did quite well imposing his size and strength, but every time that right came calling...

I should have Carnera among the strongest, though. He was a true beast.
