How to beat Henry Armstrong!

Just a bit of fun here lads.

I give you any Lightweight or Featherweight in history for you to train and work the corner for, only catch is your fighting Henry Armstrong.

what fighter would you take?

How would you plan for Armstrong in training?

whats your fight plan?

I'd take Jose Luis Castillo, get him in a good solid camp, train him up real good, and then just before the bell sounds for the first round I'd place him inside the tank, then he can trundle around the ring after Armstrong, trying to run him over, blast him with the heavy artillery, fuck him up with the machine gun or set him on fire with the flamethrower. Even then I still think it would be a 50/50 kinda fight

Lou Ambers seemed to have the right plan against Armstrong, although I felt he still lost.

I think Ike Williams would set the blue print with his given skills and attributes:

Short punches
Speed
Power

Enough strength to stand his ground and deliver meaningful shots, which is a big factor.

As would be body punching and uppercuts.

Pernell Whitaker

tactics:
constantly use the jab
use the ring to not allow Armstrong to get set
punches in bunches and get out of the way
stand your ground when needed

I agree with this pick and i think it's the best plan. To meet him and employ proper inside work, the candidate must have great technique, stamina, and must have heart. I'd favour Duran as well. Maybe Ortiz but he could lose a close decision himself, though he actually has that strength to stand his ground and that enables him to compete to the very end.

Maybe. But Nelson and Chavez both had some success in closing the gap, even though Whitaker was able to win fairly comprehensively in the end, inside as well as out. Armstrong though is a different kettle of fish to both those men in that he closed the gap much quicker and operated at closer range at a much higher rate.

Then again, Whitaker was masterful on the inside himself, though in a different way to Armstrong. He was a top body puncher too, especially with the southpaw hook, which might have been a good way to slow Armstrong down. Left uppercuts too. Then again, consider that Armstrong was able to nullify Garcia's bolo uppercuts and body punches whilst throwing him around into the bargain, and it doesn't make me too confident.

I tend to agree with Manassa concerning Williams. Even more so than Duran I think.
