Louis himself always said his peak physical performance came against Max Baer, nine months before the loss to Schmeling. That first match between the two is online in it's entirety. By all means, check it out. (Keep in mind that Schmeling was already past his prime when he pulled off the upset, magnifying his achievement a bit.)

Where Louis is concerned, he may have already peaked physically for Max Baer, but I think his most evolved performance came when he slashed apart Godoy in their rematch. Just about all the steps Joe took in that one were backwards, yet he hammered Godoy into a bloody mess. I don't believe Marciano would have beaten the Louis of Godoy II, and Frazier wouldn't have had much fun with him either.

Yeah, the Baer fight along with Goday II were Louis at his best, but for sheer one punch terror, I'd go with that lightning bolt he landed on the never before decked or stopped Paolino Uzcudun.

I was very impressed with Sergio Martinez's performance against Paul Williams. Williams, incidentally, presents difficulty, but he has plenty of vulnerabilities that can be exploited. Sergio did and I think he did successfully. I had him up by 2 rounds.

It was a masterful... the angling around, the circles, the speed with going in and then stepping out just out of reach. Sergio fought him outside of the perimeter and when Paul did what Paul does which is get aggressive, he countered with short shots inside the long loops thrown at him. He varied his attack, he went to body and head. He threw unpredictable shots, he punched well.

I would probably Say Honneyghan vs Curry , Curry was close to being perfect in previous fights , against really tough competition, but Loyd didnt let him do what he did best and that was think . bullied and pushed the fight was over after 6 rounds

Wright-Trinidad

I don't know who was favoured to win out of Tito and Winky but the odds would've had to be closer than the arse whupping it turned out to be.

Wright was superb in this and fought the perfect fight for a fighter (all be it faded) like Trinidad.I doubt Tito won a minute let alone a round,and the defeat was even more comprehensive than Hopkin's victory over him imo,minus the KO.

Gabe looked to be the man at 130 until the Garcia tragedy (which ruined Gabe as a fighter) and Nelson once again returned to rule the roost.

There were some top fighters at jnr lightweight during the mid 90's.

Yeah what happened with the scoring in fight one. Wasnt it announced as a win for Nelson, then changed to a draw?
