Default ? about gaurd position while throwing left hook

What's up ESB,
I see some guys with their right hand on their chin/cheek, and others I see with their right hand all the way to their temples when throwing the left hook. Which is technically correct?

the question of where you hold your right hand(temple or jaw) is debateable whether your throwing the hook or not. I would say hold the right to the temple because if you place it on teh jaw (which is ultimately what you want to protect ) the hand has a habit of lowering itself. So try to focus ont eh temple and your jaw should be protected

If you keep it on the temple you'll eat a hook to the liver at some point, mine is on the jaw so both head and body are protected. I don't know why it would lower itself, it doesn't bother me that's all I can say.

It's also in better position to parry jabs when kept at jaw level. I try to keep my right hand "on the phone" so to speak.

Iff your wearing a headguard, there is no need to cover the temple.

I'm much more concerned with taking a hook to the liver than a hook to the temple. Also, having your hand at jaw level also sorta protects the side of the head. If the other guy throws a hook, your glove will probably catch at least some of it. At any rate, the jaw and liver are way more important to protect than the temple.

On my cheek bone kinda level.

I also slightly tilt to the left to get leverage in the hook, anbd this keeps your guard tighter.

Its a compromise thing.

If you need to be more defensive because the other guy is really dangerous, then covering the temple and dipping a bit lower while hooking to keep the body out of reach is the prudent thing to do.

But, if its offense you're more concerned with, then you can compromise a bit of defense by keeping the glove at cheek level to be able to fire off a right hand more easily. Your opponent is more likely to be aiming his hook at your jaw than at your temple.

I put my right hand on the other guy's shoulder. That way, he can't generate any power if he tries to counter hook. It also puts him off balance a bit and in perfect position to eat my hook.
