My girlfriend has her first amateur fight in a week. She bought her shoes and her trainer said he had everything else (ie trunks/jersey). Now the trainer says she may need a chest protector and a no-foul guard.
Is this required to compete? if so... wouldnt they have this epuiptment. Our trainer doesnt speak great english and this is his first female fighter so there seems to be some confusion. We checked the usa boxings website but found nothing. What a sad little site. no info. |

The groin protector isn't required so she won't need that. And usually gyms only have male ones and they don't fit and are really hard to move in.
Some states require chest protectors, just depends where you live. But either way, they are good to have. Ringside sell the turtle shells and they work awesome and you can't even tell they are there. |

Officially they are required, but a friend of mine says nobody ever wears them and the referees aren`t allowed to check to make sure, so they just say yes when they ask. She`s on the national team and competes all over the world so if it`s not a big deal at that level, I`m sure your gf will be fine.

USA Boxing Rulebook - 103.1.5 - Female boxers may wear a well-fitting breast
protector. The breast protector must be well fitted and not interfere with the boxer’s ability to box. The breast protector may be constructed of protective material and shall not extend downward (inferiorly) past the tip (xiphoid process) of the sternum or upward (superiorly) past the collarbone. In laymens terms it is not required in the US. The Rulebook is on the usa boxing's website it is the big button that says Download USA Boxing's Rulebook |

she fights this Sat. feb. 20th. i will keep you posted.
im a little worried. shes been making easy work of the female sparring partners. she hasn't really been tested. she has been sparring a male 15 yr. old national champion... thats making her better. however, he's taking it easy on her. |

She did well but lost tko 3.
She won almost every sec. of the fight before walking into a right haymaker. Her nose busted and they couldnt stop the bleeding. Ref stopped it with less that 30 sec. to go. Shes fine. it looked bad with all the blood and everything. |

Ah shoot! That's the sport of boxing though. You can be winning all the way and then....BAM!
But that's ok, good for her for getting in there. I hope she doesn't let this match get her down and I really hope she returns to the gym and the ring, right away. Best of luck to her. |
