Yeah definitely ease into it OP, remember your energy levels change after a little time. So stick to it, even if you don't see results immediately. They will come if you're trying.

Don't be afraid to stop and have a breather if you're having a jog, it doesn't make sense to burn yourself out because if you think economically, that breather will help you work hard at the end of your run and get you better results.

HIIT isn't straight into all out sprints anyway, it can be walking into a jog to begin with. If people don't want to do that then they're just plain lazy.
