Default what weight to fight at?

quick question- im new to boxing (and dont have any experience in wrestling, horse jockeying, or anything where "cutting weight" is common).

my question is, assuming someone is very lean (if this makes a difference), about how far under one's "walking around" weight would you want to fight at? 10 pounds seems about right?

I am 6 foot and a half, and about 180 pounds at like 8 pct body fat. I think I could get to the point (lessening any weightlifting) where I'd be 165-170 walking around. Would 160 be the division I'd want to fight in, or is it common to lose more than 10 lbs of water, etc before fighting?

I noticed that Jermain Taylor and Kelly Pavlik came in at like 166 and 168 for their recent fight, which is less of a post-weigh-in gain than I would have expected.

thanks in advance...

Default Re: what weight to fight at?

I've gotten the view that most beginners don't cut too much weight for their earlier amatuer fights, I think it's really just personal choice. I wrestled all throughout school and cut extreme amounts of weight at times ( went from 140 to 112 my junior year) Cutting weight sucks big time and can leave you feeling easily fatigued. I think that it's good to have about 7-10% body fat if you are wanting to compete, so whatever your weight is with that %, go with that.
