Default Calzaghe/Kessler.Biggest Unification Fight(non HW) Since Leonard/Hearns 1981?

I can't think of one to compare since Leonard v Hearns.

It's a pretty big deal.

Trinidad-De La Hoya was a unification of the IBF and WBC welterweight titles. It would have been the WBA as well, but the WBA decided to strip Quartey before he fought De La Hoya.

Michael Spinks and Dwight Qawi for the light heavyweight title was another big unification bout.

This certainly has that sort of feel. It's a big fight, no doubt. There is one significant difference, however. Calzaghe - who I think will win, btw - is coming toward the end of his career. In Leonard-Hearns, you had two fighters in their physical prime, reasonably close in age, in the heart of their careers.

Basically what I'm saying is that while this is an important fight, it is unlikely to equal the standard set by Leonard-Hearns I.

No, Roy had the IBF title at 160, and Toney had the same title at 168.

Both undefeated with 40 wins no loses, both dominant with no signs of weakneses, both title holders, both exiciting and with high KO ratios. Huge fight. The winner will be undisputer 168 lb king.

Hopkins-Trinidad was for the big 3 (WBC, WBA, IBF). Wright-Mosley was the same I believe. So were Tszyu-Judah and Stinks-Mayorga.

As I said earlier, Trinidad-De La Hoya had two belts b/c Quartey got stripped right before he fought Oscar.

Mayweather's WBC title was at stake against Corrales, but Chico had been stripped of his IBF belt shortly before the fight. Corrales-Castillo was for the WBC and WBO belts, just like Morales-Barrera I.

This fight is unique because there is no other 168 lbers that compare to these two at the moment. These are undoubtly #1 and #2 at 168 and there is a big gap between others Lucian Bute at #3 but needs few more fights to prove himself. OUt of those you mentioned only Trinidad DLH was bigger than this one.

There' unification... then there's unification. If we're talking "unification" then yes, it's probably on a par. But in general, it will turn out to be a damp squib therefore will be quickly forgotten as "those two white European guys".

I think it's the biggest since Hoya-Trinidad. Part of the reason is because of the historical significance. 168 will finally have a true undisputed champion. And the other reason is that their both undefeated. Another reason is that they're both damn really good fighters and it's just an intriguing matchup.
