A win over Sam Peter defines Vitali's career?

The Lewis fight was definitely Vits biggest/most important. And I wouldn't say shot so much as faded, out of shape and halfway out the door. He was preparing to fight the headcase known as Kirk Johnson. I doubt he put as much work in the gym as he would have had he known from the outset that he was fighting Vit. An properly prepared Lennox would have ko'd Klit in the later rounds. As the fight went on he was getting stronger and won the last 2 rounds, finding a home for his money punch, the uppercut. Vitaly will be chasing that ghost for the rest of his life. I wish there were some more talented folks in the heavyweights so we could get a true sense of both Klits abilities, but I still think Lewis beats them both every time.

Really? Vitali at the time was thought to be a heartless quitter with no boxing skills whatsoever. Most people expected Lewis to easily outbox Vitali, many said Vitali's robotic, slow telegraphed punches would never even get close to Lewis' chin.

Had Lewis known he was to face Vitali he might actually have trained even less.

Physically he was at his peak.
But he didn't have Manny in his corner.

Vitali's career defining moment is shamelessly ducking Valuev. You watch, in the history books of the future, it'll look something like this:

Vitali Klitschko - WBC Heavyweight Champion*

He comeback after a nearly 4 year absence, with no tune-up, & won virtually every round against the WBC Champion. Which has never been done in the history of boxing. That defines Vitali to me.

Don't know why everyon's banging on about Lewis-that's just negativity and criticism for it's own sake.

As it stands Vitali's best win is probably Peter or Sanders, he has the oldest champion to return thing going for him as well.

You are probably right, Vitaly is not the top 10 ATG material due to his injuries
but he is strong top 20 ATG HW contender due his skills, size and toughness.
I think that is an objective evaluation.

Vitali's defining moments are as follows:

INtimidating Lennox into hasty retirement.

Avenging the dangerous Sanders with a brutal beatdown.

Astonishingly easy wins over Kirk Johnson, Sam Peter, Johnson, Arreola, etc.

Scaring Haye into hiding and silence.

Dominating the sport like only Holmes, Tyson, Lewis, Johnson, Ali and Louis were able to. Completely dominating.

Knockout percentage the best in HWT history.

many proud and awesome defining moments in the career of Vitali.

Clit wasn't good enough to take the torch, even though Lewis was not only old but out of shape as well.

BTW, You could also add the following:

Did Louis beat Marciano/Charles
Did Holmes beat Tyson
Did Foreman beat Holyfield

Yeah, Foreman at 45 has him beat there.
