The furthest it ever got was a "maybe" future fight when Cotto was a hot prospect around the time that Hatton fought Zoo.

Great fight at 140 in 2005-2007. After that Cotto would have made short work of Hatton.

Im sure Hatton was ringside for the Cotto - Judah fight? But then i also remember Cotto being ringside for one of Hattons, maybe the Collazo fight? I can't remember exactly.

Would've been a great fight anyway at the time. I'd say Cotto win by late stoppage.

I remember seeing Cotto fight in one of his early world title fights on Sky and Barry Mcguigan said he felt Hatton would be best avoiding Cotto for as long as he could because at the time Cotto looked unbeatable. He said longer he went without fighting Cotto. The more he could see Cotto's faults and weaknesses.

The Hatton that fought Tsyzu would've gave Cotto nightmares at 140. Cotto was great at 140 but he could be got at. I was desperate for the fight to happen at the time especially at the Garden. Man that'd have been a tear up. I reckon Hatton could've done it. I dunno.

Torn.

In 2007 at 140 it had fight of the year written all over it...

But only at 140, at 147 I think the might would have gone to Cotto...

One thing is for certain, it would have been a barnburner...

I think Hatton is a pretty difficult fighter to rate.... he spent much of his prime fighting bums at the MEN and had arguably already peaked by the time he beat Tszyu.

By the time he fought Floyd he was showing wear and tear (not that it would have mattered), and was mentally shot from thereon. The win over Paulie was decent, and the Pacquiao fight was a debacle.

Cotto.... I'd always felt that he was over-hyped to a certain degree, and was always going to run into trouble vs a pressure fighter that could take his shots, especially once he stopped banging to the body to slow an opponent down.

I'd say it would be a great fight at both 140 and 147..... Hatton would have enough stamina at his natural weight to get the job done for me, at 147 he'd come out swinging and maybe hurt Cotto before being hurt himself and rescued about halfway.

At 140, this would have been an absolute war. Real shame that the fight never happened as I think Hatton would have been the first to beat Cotto.

147 would have been a different matter. Cotto was/is much more suited to that weight, than Hatton was. It would have been competitive, but I think Cotto would edge it.

It would hae been a great fight. There's truth in saying both men's 1st losses badly affected them, especially so in hatton's case IMO. I think it would have been very very close but as cotto's standard of opponents was probably better at 140, I may just have favoured him
