If Duddy's in top shape, this will turn out to be a very competitive fight that could go either way. I think people are overrating Chavez Jr.: the kid has not looked good at 160 lbs., he has no amateur background, and he has a life-long reputation for being lazy in the gym. Chavez Jr. is not the overwhelming bomber or first rate talent that it would take to blow Duddy away. Duddy's limitations are well known -- he's hittable, not a heavy banger, he cuts, and he's a "B" level talent -- but so far, there's no evidence that Chavez Jr. is any better.
The way I see it, both of these guys are left-hooking clubfighters who like to fight on the inside. When allowed to put his punches together, Duddy's is actually very flashy with his hands, particularly his left: he mixes left hooks to the head and body, and jabs nicely. I could see Duddy outworking Chavez Jr. at close quarters, particularly given that Chavez doesn't have heavy punching power to make Duddy fold. Will Chavez Jr. use his jab and counterpunching ability to rip Duddy up from outside? I doubt it. Based on the films I've seen of Chavez Jr., he's a good but not great distance fighter. I don't think he'll have any real edge on Duddy at long-range. Look for Duddy for force his way inside. It could go either way. The pair is evenly matched. In fact, Duddy's proven capacity to come back from the brink in slugfests against Yori Boy Campas and Waldemar Smichet may stand him in good stead here. The big difference is the pro-Chavez San Antonio crowd. Possibly this fight ends in a robbery decision for Junior. In that case, Bob Arum will hype a rematch on pay-per-view. |

If I really wanted to be the smartass that I am, I would go ahead and put all my vCash on Chavez by decision now that the fight's over, since the betting is still opened. ...But I also don't want to be banned. So, I won't.
