Default Can the Ding A Ling Man fight at heavyweight?

Darnell Wilson AKAThe Ding A Ling Man, may be able to compete at heavyweight. He is decievingly quick, see the counter punches that dropped Ndowo in the 10th round, and his shots would hurt heavyweights, too.

Look how much hell Kelvin Davis gave tough fringe contender Terry Smith. He really took some tough shots from Davis and was quite busted up. Wilson would have been the first guy to stop him if they fought. And his opponents include Calvin Brock and Jameel "small time" McCline.

I say he could hang with some contenders and surprise many people.

What's the conscensus on this?

Also, I thoguht Ndowo was better than I thought. he is very quick and extremely dangerous. I'm not certain any other cryuisers could have gotten by him the other night.

Let's just see how he does against the top fighters in the weight-class he's in right now...

No, against Klitschko, Chagaev, or Peter, he would be outgunned....at cruiserweight though, he can be a champion.

I think he should stick to cruiser, he can go far there. Also he got outpointed by owen beck at heavy (although that was during his bad patch so who knows). Personally I think he could beat a few heavies but would be too small for the bigger ones. In any event given that he's taking care of business at cruiser and working towards a title shot I think it'd be a bad move to go up.

Actually many people are overlooking the point that for many stretches of his fight with Nwodo he was outboxed and outl\slugged. fighters who keep their distance and use the jab at the elite level should be able to defeat Wilson. I like Wilson but he is limited in my opinion. Tall cruisers who as they said continuosly during the fight--who do not fall into Davis and have good balance shouel be able to keep him at bay.. Hope he does well but before everyone proclaims him Kong he would actually need to win a belt in the crusier division....But good luck. to Wislon.. he came across as a smart and very cool individual..

How effective would he be at heavyweight? He depends on being tough enough to absorb whatever his opponent can throw at him and his opponents not being able to take what he throws back at them, kind of like Jirov if you get my drift. He could beat some heavyweights but once he gets in with the top dogs his style would be his downfall.

i think any boxer over 5'10 should try stepping up as world titles in the hw division are gifted today.

he has good handspeed and can punch so why not? i'm sure that if he can't ko someone like maskaev he would have a 50/50 at outpointing him.

david haye has the best idea, where his chin gets tapped is another thing but at least he's having a crack

He seems kinda small to be at Heavyweight, and he gets hit quite a bit. If he can get a title at Cruiser I would suggest going that route. But of course Heavyweight money is a big lure.

a champ at cruiser would only need 2-3 tune up fights once he steps up to get a shot at the HW title. seems a good route and potentially lucrative

As he is now, improved and doing well at cruiser, he's a big fish in a little pond. At heavy, he'd be very little fish in a very big pond filled with some monsterous fish ready to swallow him whole.

He should stay at cruiser, till he reaches the top, then maybe consider entering the heavyweight divsion.
