Does anyone know if the shoulder dislocation Vitali suffered against Byrd was caused before the fight or during the fight ?

OKay, I have had my fun with Joey Maxim.

But I am interested in who everybody thinks should move into the top 10 list in his place.

Charles is an obvious contender. Is it safe to say he should rate ahead of Moore? I think so but am interested what others thing. Others i see in contention with these guys would include Tommy Ryan or Barbados Joe Walcott who both had no problems climbing through the ranks. Or maybe a short but spectacular run of a Terry McGovern might tilt the scales in his favour. Looking through my list there seems to be a fighter from most eras, except the 80s and 90s. Who is the obvious pound for pound greats from these eras?

It's disgusting how underrated Ali is becoming.

For that reason;

1. Ali
2. Sugar Ray Robinson
3. Henry Armstrong
4. Harry Greb
5. Benny Leonard
6. Archie Moore
7. Sugar Ray Leonard
8. Ezzard Charles
9. Roberto Duran
10. Joe Louis

I would have Ali 5th, but I stand by 1st due to how poorly people are rating him.

Compromising your own rankings because you dislike someone elses is a sad thing.

There is NO WAY Ali is a total lock for the top 10. There are far, far to many good fighters at the sharp end. Myself, I have him at #7, but #11 is also a really good spot for him.

And Leonard wasn't even that great.

Shut up you weird Duran fanboy.
Ali is easily one of the ten best fighters ever. Saying otherwise is an attempt to appear elitist and 'knowledgable'.

I agree. But, here is another way of looking at it.

ON a pound for pound basis, Ali is almost certainly the fastest boxer of all time.

He probably has the best Heart/recuperative powers of all time.

His chin must be pretty close to the best pound for pound chin of all time.

How many other fighters would be ranked so highly, pound for pound, in so many categories? I dont think no 1 is totally out of the question.

Once you get into the realm of head to head and fighter's abilities rather than their achievements, you open up a can of worms where a whole raft of fighters can be argued no.1, including Ali.

One thing I do agree with is that p4p should work in reverse, so Ike Williams doesn't hit as hard as Muhammad Ali, but is still the puncher of the two on a p4p basis - similarly, Ali's speed is better than that of many fighters from lower weights, and that should be acknowledged.

I wouldn't have Ali at 1 anyway. 5 is his position for me. I just think it would be terrible for him to miss out in the top ten because people seem to misinterpret 'P4P'. Either that or they're trying to be too clever and not wanting to name obvious choices.

Yet you didnt include the only middleweight or light heavyweight ever to win the World Heavyweight title in your list! Isnt that leaving out the most obvious choice? Or have you misinterpreted pound for pound, or tried to be too clever?

No. Fitzimmons has little footage and looks shit in the footage there is. I dont rate him higher than the people in my list.
