Default Chauncy Welliver KO 3 Brad Gregory-Detroit

On Friday Oct. 29th, The Hillyard Hammer outclassed another jouneyman in Detroit and retained his WBC Contitnetal Americas HW Title. His opponent was a ripped 207 pounds but he couldn't withstand the Welliver body attack for long. Rack up win #45 for Chauncy Welliver at the ripe old age of 27....barely. He's also has himself a couple nice rankings. Top 10 WBO and Top 15 WBC.

Next up is a December fight, back in New Zealand. He's basicly cleaned out the entire island already though, besides Mr. Tua. So his opponent will probably be brought in from out of town. I've heard a bunch of names including Lance Mount Whitaker. Perhaps some Aussies are under consideration as well? Big Bob! Is Colin Wilson back in action?

I keep hearing Michael Kirby talking about wanting to fight Chauncy. He could use some wins though. Lepai and Kali could be good fights for Welliver in 2011. Tua would be an excellent eliminator after he beats Monte for his revenge. Especially if Chauncy can notch himself a good name and a few wins in the meantime.

Yes, Welliver needs a signature win to go with his HW Rankings for the fans to get really excited about him. He stepped up to the plate and fought Odlanier Solis and is 11-0 since, down 42+ pounds, and is now trained by the 1st Native American HW Boxer to ever fight for the Title in Joe "The Boss" Hipp. He's due for another opportunity against a top name.

Who do you guys think Welliver should start targeting besides Tuaman to establish himself as a premeire force in the Asia Pacific region?

admittedly 45plus fights at age 27 is impressive, but his resume is nothing to be excited about, apart from fighting Solis who beat welliver easily is there anything to get excited about? there is no power in the punches to stop any big heavyweight, but hopefully hes getting paid enough to make a decent career out of it

I think his power is starting to peak. He's also much quicker with his hands and feet now. Solis didn't drop Chauncy, if the ref would have stayed back, he'd have went the whole 12 with Solis easily. That was 42 pounds ago, on late notice, before Joe Hipp started training him, before he started weight training. And he has proven cardio and punch resistance to go 12 rounds. Unlike Chisora and especially Fury.

Welliver can out work and out will fighters with more power. He's got 1 of the better body attacks in the division. One of the better chins, great stamina. And he is still very young, he can continue to improve.
