Default Freddie Steele Today!

How would fearsome Freddie do among today's 160 pounders?
[Thought it might make a change from kiss Smoking Joe's arse ,and spit on Ali]

He´d be the best from jmw (I guess he could make it with today´s rules) to smw, perhaps even at lhw.

He'd do superbly.

A brilliant boxer-puncher with solid technical ability and a very big punch, I don't see anyone beating him at Middleweight today, although Martinez would have a stylistic advantage the ability difference is just massive.

What stylistic advantage would Martinez have? I hear this in damn near every matchup he's put in.

I feel Steele could be troubled by a guy who is staying on the outside and looking to slip inside with counters/leads, off his own lateral movement. I got the feeling Steele's loss was in part due to lateral movement and some combo punching.

Its been a while since I watched any Steele though.

It was pretty much the opposite. Steele had trouble with volume pressure fighters who didn't allow him to gauge the distance and pick his spots. When allowed to dictate the range, or keep it in center ring, he thrived. He was fantastic at closing the distance in one fell swoop for his immaculately timed power shots. Just an excellent box-puncher.
