I personally think that it would have been ugly and very close either way..and if Fullmer got the nod in one fight, Emile could have very well squeaked the nod the next time, as he was so capable of doing, even if it was disputed. Remember, Griffith was a full-fledged middleweight..and was very, very strong himself.

Also he tends to use his strength in a way that would trouble Griffith more than Tiger. Where Tiger would stalk you, Fullmer would swamp you. |

Gene Fullmer and Emile Griffith would have been an interesting fight. Emile Griffith handed Dick Tiger two losses so one would have to figure the same thing would happen with Fullmer. Not necessarily as the old addage "styles make the fight" Fullmer had more boxing ability than Tiger as ragged as it was. He was also just about as strong as Tiger. Head to head Tiger was too much for Gene late in his career. I don't know if that would have been the case a few years earlier. I would leean toward Gene Fullmer in this matchup but can't argue with those that like Emile Griffith either.Fullmer by a close decision over 15 rounds.

Griffith boxes Fullmer's ears off, wins a wide 15 round decision. Fullmer will no doubt try to get Griffith to brawl, but Griffith is too smart for that.
