I think its pretty clear Jones couldnt take the same chances against LH's. His punch output became more straight power shots than combinations.

Same goes for some of his middleweight opposition. One was a former lightweight!

MW and LHW, big difference.

SMW and LHW, maybe not such a big difference.

That's a bold statement to make around these parts.

But I'm not sure you are wrong.

Jones was some fighter at his best, you could never rule anything out but a Jones UD is the best bet here, he had enough power to damage Hagler & earn his respect, preventing Hagler from trying to steamroll him as he did to Hearns... its hard seeing anyone outpointing prime Jones & Hagler is more an accumulation puncher than KO puncher... I just dont see him landing enough on Jones rd by rd to wear him out.

Jones at his best is 1 of the best ever, not saying Hagler is not but RJJ has a size advantage here as well as a speed & power advantage also.

Jones W12 UD Hagler

Yes, it's such a more difficult task dealing with lumbering oafs day in and day out as opposed to more skilled fighters, so long as those oafs happen to be 8 pounds larger than those same skilled opponents.

Yes Jones definitely looked his absolute best in '94 to me.

'94 Middleweight Jones IMO decisions Hagler, he could even score a knockdown (I'm not joking). But there is a real chance Hagler could earn late KO like some say.

You seen what he did to Toney and Tate...Jones is not unbeatable but he is one tough mother****er to beat at Middleweight and Super Middle.

agreed for the most part but i still think he reached his absolute peak in 96, when his body matured a bit more (cue the usual crowd saying it was steroids)

I just don't see a middleweight Jones hurting Hagler.

Thomas Tate wasnt superior to most of Jones LH foes. You saw Jones approach Toney the way he fought a lot of the LH guys, because he was his best opponent down there. Jones was never really a physically big guy coming up to 175 compared to some of the other guys, so besides Toney, Jones was basically facing a bigger version of the opposition he was fighting at middle and super middle.
