Dope-a-Rope....

Isn't that the trick?

Bobby, the complete OPPOSITE of ali's defensive rope -a-dope. Dundee did his trick in every bout in his 300+ career. My dad saw him using this trick often.
He would fly into the ropes with full force with his back, thus confusing his opponent. Then when his opponent wasn't prepared ,he would bombard the guy with a fusilade of punches. Well this ONE time Willie Jackson timed his
richochet perfectly off the ropes, with a right hand that knocked the iron jawed Dundee COLD. Perfect timing...

Burt, you've gotta admire a fighter that uses the ropes effectively. These days it's there as a barrier to keep the fighter from landing on the ringside seats.

This is why I love old time fighters. They were a lot more creative with their approaches.

These days if you punch a little wide your trainer will make sure you keep it tight.

Which is exactly why it should be replaced by something else because it serves its purpose very badly.
