Not really a bum. He has a decent fight record and has lost only to good opponents.

No...what you said is that (and I quote) "Asikainen is a bum".

There's a big difference between someone with a few TKO losses and a bum.

For someone who isn't the most durable he did fairly well for himself in his pro career.

you have reason, i want to say that he has get too many chances for important titles, more than he deserves. His only decent win was over Sylvester, i don't think that winning Yori Boy, Karagoz o DiGiacomo he deserves to fight for 4 EBU titles (all four losses by TKO). He isn't a bum, but he has a really good manager getting him soo many chances!

I maybe had to take few words back now.. Maybe Asikainen had some major chin problems... he should not have been knocked out against guy like 30% ko..

Asikainen had no recuperation powers. Every time hurt, he was a sitting duck. That was the main problem.

He didnīt have body movement either. Just stood there as a jab-pole, relying on his double guard. Which he abandoned pretty hastily and was most willing to trade.

So - TKO losses.

I also was wondering a bit where did Asikainen's EBU-challenger status in super middle come from? Well.. where did Wilczewski got his from? Who did he beat to earn that? But... these things happen. From where did they pull Attila Levin to take on Helenius for EU-belt? How did they even know Levin was still boxing?

What comes to Asikainen, I think the had a decent career. Between the title fights I think his list was a bit protected. Which imho partly could contribute to him not doing so well in those. His list could look worse if he took more fights on euro level, or it could look better too if he took bigger fights when he was at his best.

I think they still should do Asikainen vs. Sylvester III for old times sake Asikainen's trainer said he believes in super middle weights Asikainen would beat Sylvester.

No offence, but Asikainen has not fought in a level he could beat Sylvester, since his loss to him in June 2007.

I know that you guys think styles make fights in this case. I disagree. I think the sheer level of Sylvesterīs performance is completely in different spheres from Asikainen.

You could see that Sylvesterīs preciseness and jab caused plenty of problems for Asikainen, and those problems would multiply if they were to meet today.

Sylvester is no KO artist, neither was Wilczewski. But with a steady work rate and careful defense, one is able to break down the rugged and careless Asikainen in the late rounds.

EBU never keeps eliminators anyway, so itīs pointless to critisize the rankings. Wilczewski and Asikainen were the most credited guys to go after the belt, since Magee went on to meet Bute and Balzsay refused.
