We seem to be zeroing in on Ali more than anybody else. Big Cat, Liston, Mac Foster, Foreman, Lyle and Shavers were all punchers of the first order, as was Frazier in the FOTC. Chuvalo left him pissing blood after their first match, and Norton really teed off on him during their middle bout. Ellis, Bugner, Cooper, Mathis, Leon Spinks, Doug Jones and Folley were all capable of loading up with deadly intent when they chose to, and had the opportunity.
"Light" punching opponents of Ali at the world class level? That's actually a bit more noteworthy. I'd suggest Mildenberger (although Karl did double him over with a left to the belly right before the end), Blin, Lubbers, Young and Wepner, then go from there. (Terrell did have a number of first round knockdowns, and was a harder puncher than his record might suggest.) Ali didn't take on too many "harmless" opponents. |
