I've heard a few posters mention the similarity in Calzaghe and Greb's style. Would you consider this an accurate comparison?
Thoughts? |

It's very possible that's a viable comparison...I've often wondered if Calzaghe's style resembled Greb...I remember reading a piece in The Ring titled 'Battle of the Legends' in this article comparing Cerdan/Burley an old time trainer by the name of Larry Kent, (who had worked with SRR, Beau Jack,Jimmy Carter, Phil Terranova, and Fred Pendleton.)stated that Cerdan resembled Greb, "With a windmill style of coming forward and firing punches, but he (Cerdan) could also box when necessary"

I was being sarcastic, Janitor.
I don't feel comfortable comparing filmed fighters to unfilmed fighters without saying, "according to" so and so. I'd rather have my own take on a fighter before comparing to one I've read about. Especially from days of color lines being drawn, and such as that. If most white fans, most white fighters, and just the majority(white) public period were racist and found non-whites inferior; why would I expect any different from the writers of the time? They would have been white too. I like to give the writers the benefit of the doubt. But without seeing film, I can't say for sure. |
