Al Pov has lost my interest. For a guy who decisioned Eddie Chambs. back in 2007, I'm not at all impressed by his progress as a pro.... Will he ever be truly ready to fight for the title?

Al Pov...? That's funny, the Americanization of his name. I always thought the day would come when the American fan base starting calling him Al. Either way, things are going to break wide open at the top of the heavyweight division soon, given the showdown between Hayemaker and Klitschko. The shake up should create some opening for Al, and enable him to win a title.

It makes sense when you think about it. During WW2, the American media dubbed Stalin as "Uncle Joe."
As for Povetkin's current nickname, a lot of Americans could end up thinking of him as "Al, the White Lion." |

I made the post based on bombshell news that came out on Jan. 8th. It was widely speculated that Povetkin and Atlas might not work together anymore. The links are below. I don't know why so many people thought I was trolling.

I think everyone who had high hopes for Povetkin should just move on to Helenius and Pulev. Helenius is literally in the same position Povetkin was 15 fights into his career. He has taken on two former champs and destroyed them, as well as blowing away some solid contenders. I really like what I have seen from Helenius.

Taking on Peter after only 14 fights took a lot of courage. I was impressed. He must work extremely hard from how on, but he has risen within the ranks! He deserves lots of credit!!!

Grant was down against almost every decent fighter he met (before and after Lewis), and only Golota was crazy enough to give him a fight that he (Grant) already lost.
Grant had no defence and didn't use his size/reach advantage, which together with his (average) chin meant he had not much chance against top10 opponents. While you can't blame Atlas he didn't improve his chin, it was his job to work on his other weak points - and it looks like he wasn't successful there. |
