Default Best Defensive/ Awkward Boxer that Ray Robinson met?

Did he meet anyone like a benitez or a pea? How did he fare against awkward guys like this?

Sammy Angott. He was very strong and his grabbing, mauling style made him a difficult man to overcome (ask Willie Pep or Ike Williams)

Gavilan, Angott, or Servo. I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. Turpin was quite 'awkward' as well.

Yeah.

Robinson's era and divisions were more laden down with good all-rounders and boxer-punchers than defensive specialist\ pure boxer types, really.Fullmer probably the best out and out awkward spoiler, or Angott.

Good call on Turpin being 'awkward', but not in a defensive manner. It's like Ken Norton, awkward as **** and annoying for Ali, but not in a defensive way. Apparently Angott and Bell were awkward stylists, but I'd need to assess more empirical evidence before I could co-sign that.

Turpin was particularly awkward; his two-fisted assaults were broken up with strange periods of ducking and jerking around. The brawler trying to be cute; a ploy so unnatural it worked.
