Here's a message we recorded for Lionel on his induction to legendary status by the Australian boxing hall of fame. Dad died only 3 days after this.

The message says it all
Respect!
A very touching and respectfull tribute.
Your Dad had the misfortune to be around in the era of a trio of great bantams, who denied him the world title, he might well have won in another era.
His misfortune is our good fortune, for those of us who are of a certain age, have the memories of those great scraps , forever fresh in our heads and hearts.

You're all class Al.

Lionel had been fading over the last few years. He simply drifted off on Sunday afternoon, whilst in Jenny's arms.

A sad day for boxing. A reminder of our mortality; a time to celebrate a legend.

RIP

What a mark he made, that little Aborigine lad

He will have a state funeral here, he is an Australian figure. Champion in and out the ring. RIP
