I do watch the odd boxing card on some occasions but I'm no expert. Perhaps joining this forum will peak my interest even further.

Watching these kind of fighters made me realize that hey maybe Muay Thai isn't the end all be all of striking and perhaps these MMA guys should visit their local boxing gyms to refine some technique. Some of the MT/kickboxing guys have good hands but for the most part MMA "boxing" is laughable.

No use of the jab, no use of range, no head movement, embarrassing footwork. It's like rock 'em sock' em robots out there swinging overhand rights and haymakers. On numerous occasions I hear so and so went to Thailand to work with MT gurus to prepare for a fight and in that fight they get lit up with basic boxing techniques.

Because they are different sports. If an MMA fighter came out and fought like a boxer, his stance alone would be enough to see him immediately taken down and pounded into dust.

I do agree that some more developed boxing techniques would be good for MMA, as we all saw the benefits of a simple jab in the GSP-Koscheck fight, but it was only GSP's amazing TD defence which allowed him to stand and box Josh.

I don't think the two sports should be confused, striking in MMA is not and should not be and will never be the same as boxing. It's a different skillset.

Exactly. Actually I saw better fundamentals from last TUF episode. Combine Chucks straights with Tony's head movement plus hooks/uppercuts and you got a very solid stand up. Fundamental stuff but they pulled it off better than most people you see in UFC.

Yeah, I was thinking of this thread when watching that episode. Tony's hands looked pretty decent and his head movement was very effective.

Shane Carwin has horrible boxing. Gonzaga was lighting him up before he got dropped and if he'd known how to throw a combination Lesnar would've been out before he hit the ground. He has huge power but his technique is terrible.
