Right now, you're only doing body sparring becuase you're new and he doesn't want you taking unnesecary shots while you're still learining. Use this training to focus more on your footwork, movement, finding your range and putting your punches together in combination while maintaining your balance, and don't focus so much about actually landing punches. It will be difficult to land if you can't hit to the head and the guy only has to block his body. It's just a way for you to get comfortable moving around against an opponent in a safe manner, not about who's landing and who isn't.

Once you get to full sparring with headshots, then you can practice setting up body shots by going to the head first to raise his arms and make an oppening.

I hate doing body sparring i would rather do head sparring and take a bit of a beating than doing it. I was body sparring with this 1 lad when i forgot my mouth guard and literrally had his arms across his body so there was nowhere to land it was very annoying so i smashed his shoulders.

feint to his head- with a fist coming towards your face your gonna open up your guard on instinct. Keep hitting high and then sit down on a big shot to that soft belly, should take the air out of him. I quite like a right to the shoulder then a lead uppercut to the belly in body sparring.

Thanks for the responses guys, especially the Hatton video

I don't know if it is because I'm new, I've been going for about 4 months and a bit now and I was told to go get a gumshield a few weeks a go by one of the other trainers but still no sparring. I think the guys who said that he is getting me used to being under pressure and firing back is right, I hadn't thought of that though.
