watch the vid of that last round...Cooney looks like he's being gang raped...bitch-slapped...like he wasn't even a fighter. Like he was a pizza delivery boy getting his tip money taken away from him. What an embarrassing ko loss.

Spinks recognised certain things about him and implemented the right plan to beat a sub-par version. He always did shit like this.

Now, listen to some Elton John.

Cooney likely is ashamed of that fight. He was a drunk and a druggy at that point and he really put in a poor effort against Spinks.

At least against Holmes and Foreman, Gerry came out and fought to the best of his abilities until the better fighters beat him down.

Against Spinks he was merely a 6'7 heavybag that threw some punches back at Spinks.

When he fought Holmes, he viewed it as his big chance to be heavyweight king and win the adoration of the entire world. He viewed the Foreman fight as a 2nd chance and an opportunity to redeem himself.

Unfortunately, the mid 1980s were not good for Cooney as a fighter. He was drinking very heavily, getting into heavy drugs, and not training properly. Then, in 1987, the Spinks fight somehow fell into his lap and he took it for obvious reasons. Needless to say, he was not in any condition to face any sort of world class fighter when he stepped into the ring that night.

It was at least a good effort and he did well in the first round. He rocked Foreman with a left hook and displayed overall good punching that he hadn't displayed in his fight with Spinks.

Cooney was still a shell of himself when he faced Foreman, but he showed more effort in those short 2 rounds than he did in the 5 against Spinks.

Cooney should never have been in the ring with Spinks on that night.

Disgusting.

Cooney was completely off it mentally when Elton John dumped his ass. When a man finds his man with another man and both of them are wearing his giant rainbow shades...shit's gonna get ugly.
