I think Garcia has Matthyse for hand-speed and footwork. I think Matthyse has Garcia for one-punch power. I'd say they are even in terms of durability and timing/punch-picking. To say Garcia has zero chance is a gross exaggeration. As far as I can see its a relatively even fight. |

Getting a gift against Theophane who is British level? He was completely out hustled in that fight, beating an old blown up super bantamweight in Morales? Or knocking out a glass jawed, defensively inept fighter in Khan? Matthysse beat Alexander and Judah IMO, thrown in wins against Dallas, Olusegan and Soto and his resume is far more accomplished. Garcia is a solid operator, but he's completely overrated, his main asset is his timing, which is pretty good, same with his left hook, but for me he's one of the more limited world champions in the sport. Look how wild he looked against Khan, you can see his punches coming a mile off, he doesn't have the power to trouble Matthysse who has from what I've seen one of best chins in the sport, Lucas sets up his shots far better. When they both start trading bombs, Garcia will be found out. |

The whole comparing achievements thing isn't what I'm basing my views on BA. I mean, Judah beat Matthyse, Khan beat Judah, Garcia beat Khan, but that doesn't really back up my argument at all because as we know styles make fights. Khan is under-rated. Because he has been KO'd twice people start to believe beating him means nothing. Garcia was having problems with Khan's speed and as we agree his timing and power were the levellers. It's clear that a fighter with world-class speed may give Garcia some issues. Matthyse is a good fighter and I agree with a lot of what you say about him, but it took him a while to grind down Olusegun and Soto is not what he was. Funnily enough, I actually think if Matthyse and Garcia trade (which they eventually would), Garcia is the one that would come out on top. But just my opinion. |

Semi's
Peterson vs Matthysse - Matthysse mid/late KO Garcia vs Judah - Garcia UD (drops Judah at least once) 'Interim' Final Matthysse vs Garcia - Really not sure. I know the popular opinion is Lucas to KO everyone (with good reason), but something tells me if Garcia stuck to a plan, he could take 6-7 rounds off Matthysse and box to a decision win. Added to the fact the fight wont be for another 9-12 months, i think Garcia may learn abit more in that time in not just relying solely on his power. I just dont think Garcia should be written off. Call me crazy, im gonna say Garcia... just. 'Super' Final - Either way Matthysse or Garcia vs Khan in the final is always night night Amir. 'Diamond' Final - Garcia vs Broner - 18 months down the line, if Broner continues to develop and carries his power upto 140, could see Broner stopping Garcia late on. Broner vs Matthysse would be the fight id want to see, but i dont think it'll happen though... Broner will take a leaf out of Floyds book and skip this dangerous fight for one ridiculous reason or another IMO. Would be better if it was just a super 6 style tourny, with Garcia, Matthysse, Khan, Petersen, Broner & Rios (instead of Zab).... would never happen though. |
