"Beyond the Glory" , a book about the Louis-Schmeling II, describes how the nation stood still and listened to the broadcast during that fight. Tough to think of too many fights that had as much affect on the general public.

Ali-Frazier I was probably better in terms of action than Ali-Foreman...and I love watching the Rumble.

I should clarify.

What fight would you consider the real FOTC in terms of it's historical significance? If you feel another fight besides the two listed in the subject of this thread should be considered the real FOTC, please explain why...

For the radio generation, Louis-Schmelling II.

For the tv generation, Ali-Frazier I.

There's no wrong answer. For historical purposed, I choose Louis-Schmelling II.

In terms of significance outside the world of boxing, Louis-Schmelling 2 was more significant.

However, from just a boxing perspective, Ali-Frazier was a bigger event.

Louis vs. Schmeling II is the most relevant sporting event to ever take place.

Johnson-Jeffries had far more of a tangible social significance.
