Default Why do we love to sell out and trash our own fighters?

I made a joke thread, about the "class gulf" between our fighters and the yanks, but it didn't take off.

But right now, I'm here in full on serious mode, big Phil Mitchell, calling out the so called "British fans"

Primadonna kool: "why do sell outs in this country bash talent like David Haye, but wank over yanks like Andre Ward as though he discovered the theory of relativity.

Steve Bunce:" if kell Brook was an American with a trainer who wore a baseball cap and called him baby, the British fans would be calling him the next sugar ray Robinson

Why do we do this?

Why do we run down, diminish and underrate our best, while praising American fighters like gods.

Why, esb, why?

Andre Ward is a special fighter and talent. Where he comes from is irrelevant. David Haye is a very good fighter and exciting to watch. One of the top cruiserweights in that divisions short history. However he lost something in his effort against Wladimir Klitschko and the injured toe saga.

People love British fighters who put it on the line. In the case of Amir Khan people are disliking him because of his delusions of grandeur and excuses.
British Nigerian Ajose Olusegun has won new fans all of a sudden in the UK and now in the USA because even though he was going through hell against Matthyse his heart and determination were noted. Matthyse acknowledged after the fight his strength, mobility and punching power. Ajose made no excuses and gave Matthyse credit for doing well and being the better man on the night He has also vowed to come back and make amends for this defeat.

Lennox Lewis is greatly respected for his exploits. Ricky Burns in greatly appreciated. Froch is greatly admired and respected and deservedly so for his resume win or loss.

The British love a good loser i.e. someone who shows heart and perhaps sheds a tear after a loss ala Andy Murray, it seems the only way to be loved and respected in this country is to lose with your head held high.

Kell Brook > struggled with Carson Jones

Andre ward> barely lost a round against Kessler, Abraham, Froch and Dawson

Not the greatest boxers to compare to be fair.

I think we are just realists, you will get people who go over the top in their assessments. Haye and Khan got super hyped before they fell flat in their big fights and Brook gets a fair bit of love. The Americans do the same, look at Kirkland, Jones, Alexander etc

If ward had got knocked on on saturday some people would have be labelling him a hype job despite the fact he cleaned out his division beforehand. That's just boxing, there is a load of idiots that like to comment on it.

The British love a loser who is graceful and loses like a man. More British where routing for Federer than Murray in the Wimbledon final.

It's also utter nonsense. Brook has only been notable since he shifted to Matchroom. And now the performance against Jones has tarnished him.
