itīs the liver. I had to take a 5 second break (told my sparring partner to stop) after i ran into a hard jab to the liver(i was trying the southpaw stance and jumped in with a right jab, got ocuntered).
That shit hurts. I was poorly conditioned at the time but i know it hurts.

it is hard to see the effects of body punching sometime, but eventually it shows. I remember Tommy Hearns against Barkley,. BArkley won both fights, but the first fight he bruised Barkley's ribs, and the second fight I think he broke two of Barkley's ribs. Barkley was limping into the post fight press conference. Hearns had a broken nose and Barkley a cut and two broken ribs. Hearns was bleeding the whole fight out of his nose with blood all over his trunks and all over Barkley. It was a brutal fight, and a fight people do not mention much. A very good fight.

Anyone who has ever fought and been hit with this punch knows there is nothing you can do to train for it. I was his twice by this shot in sparring and it felt like someone stuck a knife in me and twisted it. By far the most painful punch in boxing if executed right.

Glass livers & china kidneys.

BTW:
You CAN train to take them a little better: It's hard, but you learn to see the punch coming, and turn your body.
However, the other defenses against body shots, tensing muscles and blowing out, don't do squat.

The pain is sort of like getting kicked in the balls, only "darker" somehow. All-consuming. Time stops .....

the Liver is always tender and painfully, plus it has the additional drawback that all the blood pass trough it, so when hitted it can cause a blood shock, literally dissipating the energy and making faint; it's not like other organs, like stomach or intestine; but it can be protected, working hard in enforcing abdominal muscles and additionally, but only Heavy weights can do this, developing some fat coating; it really protects against blows, that in the HW division could almost kill if someone has a skinny, thin, six-pac

And it doesn't respond well when it takes punches either. There are degrees of this as some people have more fluid surrounding there brain.
