He's in a tough place. I do agree that he won't be doing too much damage at 154.

He hasn't fought at WW since 2009.

So I think it's safe to say he can't fight there otherwise he would have or would have spoken openly to it rather than saying no way.

Has he stated why he wont go back down? His proportioned like a 147 fighter... Maybe he is to old to be pushinghis body to make weight? I agree he could be a real test for 147 fighters like ortiz or maybe thurman

I think at 147 he would beat almost every fighter at 147 but floyd pac and maybe thurman.

He would beat bradley and i think JMM no roids he beats him to

I still believe that Cotto's best weight is 147 EVEN NOW.

The only time I enjoyed watching him north of welter was to extract revenge from Margarito.
But even on that fight I was a tad nervous towards the end when AM was starting to connect more.

He never belonged north of WW. He was at his strongest at 147. The guys at 154 are simply too big for him.

Freddie Roach said earlier this week Miguel was down to 156 pounds and he was eating whatever he wants. He said there's a chance Cotto goes to 160 to fight Martinez next year, which he thought was a good idea, until he realized Cotto was almost at the junior middleweight limit before they even started to cut weight. Roach says he thinks Cotto will be better suited at 147, but Miguel still maintains it would be a struggle to get to that weight and says he feels best at 154.

He could get to 147, but his last goal is to be champ in his 4th weightclass so he prefers staying closer to 160

Cotto could have been so much more, I question the professionalism of the people he had around him, mainly his uncle and his buddy that were his trainers at 140 and 147.

I remember seeing film of Cotto training himself, while his uncle stood by silently, at that point they were not on speaking terms. The Santiago as trainer fiasco, in the Pac fight.

The rumors he drank beer and didn't train hard, from other Ricans on the Island. The dumb ass move to 154, a weight where he doesn't belong and loses to taller men because of his lack of reach and height'

His refusal to see this reality, since hell, he makes millions, but he could have been much, much, more. look how far Garcia has gotten with less skill but with a much stronger cast of characters around him

That's what most outsiders don't understand. The stuff that only locals can know

Talent alone has got him very very far but questionable desisions, not enough work ethic and just plain bad luck

too much partiying, fighting with his trainer because he wanted to run the show and not listen, ran into bricks and the juice. Too lazy for 147, too small for 154

Still has a nice career

Cotto lacks motivation and the honesty to blame himself. This is why he has had as many trainers as he has had fights.
