Default Why Hagler Could Take a Punch

(as detailed in ‘Sorcery at Caesars’)

Hagler’s lineage provided him magnificent boxing genes – that much was certain. He was graced with long arms and shoulders as wide as his ambition. More remarkable was his temporalis – a muscle that runs across the skull at both temples. Most temporalis are a quarter-inch thick, but both of Hagler’s were one inch, a phenomenon that astounded his physician when it was discovered during a routine exam in 1983. Hagler’s temporalis acted as a natural helmet and almost certainly helped him absorb blows. But he was sensitive to the notion of freakish physicality, perhaps from a racial perspective, and bridled at questions about his temporalis.

Strong neck too probably. I mean, when did you ever see Hagler's head swivel from the result of a punch?

I'm going to buy your book. Lots of hidden depths about both fighters in it.

I take it with a pinch of salt. Doctors and scientists bullshit as much as anyone.

When did you ever see Hagler with his chin up in the air ,like Brendan Ingle's fighters for example ? The guy learned his trade.

Steve. Do you have any memorabilia from the Hagler-Leonard fight?

A classic example of a Pyrrhic victory, in Marvin's case.

i also read hagler had a thicker skull than normal so all those factors lead up to the best chin ever

i have a necktie patterned with the words 'hagler-leonard'.

as i recall, pat petronelli's wife-to-be, betty whitney, designed them. not sure how i ended up with one, but it's in the top drawer of my dresser.

Hagler may have steamrolled Tommy, but the shots he absorbed hastened Marvin's decline.

Ah, I see. Yeah, actually you're probably right. With that in mind, it's actually quite remarkable what Hearns managed to achieve after that fight considering he went through what Marv went through but even worse. Great fighter, that Hitman.

Just imagine this..

Hearns right hand makes most humans cringe.

Prolly most horrific and feared weapon in history of the sport,,,

and that same weapon was crushed against Marvin's head.>

That truly is most badass thing I could ever think of.
