lets pretend arguello moved up to 140 and instead of meeting a juiced up madman in pryor, he meets the long reigning cervantes.
both had a lot in common stylewise. both relied on orthodox boxing skills and numbing ko power. both had devestating right hands. neither one was a speedmerchant. both had reliable chins. and both were tall guys.....they stood 5´10. arguello was the greater fighter pound for pound. but cervantes had the advantage of being the natural jr. welter. so who wins?? |

Depends which Cervantes. An 1972-75 Cervantes knocks Arguello out in about ten rounds imo. The slower, more ponderous Cervantes that Pryor faced in 1980 probably loses a 9-6 type decision to Arguello, or gets stopped in the last couple of rounds.
