Default Aggressive/front foot featherweights who are 50/50 or better against Sanche

I'm trying to get away from fantasy fights but couldn't help myself with this one.

Anyone who has watched Sanchez against men like Castillo, Ford, Cowdell etc as opposed to Lopez, Gomez and Nelson probably accepts that it was more the technical types, jabbers, counterpunchers and - in the case of Ford - outright freaks who took Sal outside his comfort zone.

But which random aggressive fighters, be they boxer-puncher, swarmer, straight-up pressure fighter or whatever - the types who Sanchez often did well against - would you give at least a 50% chance of defeating him?

I wanted to exclude Armstrong from the discussion because of the obviousness, but if anyone wants to elaborate on how they think that fight might go, be my guesty guestperson. Please try to elaborate on any picks that you might make and explain your reasoning and so on.

Jeff fenech maybe. Wasn't going to be discouraged, tough on the inside, berry berry strong even st 126,, extremely well conditioned so he's not going to wear down in the clutch. I think he has a good, good shot. That's my random borderline atg guy there are tons of guys (Canzoneri, Arguello, Saldivar, etc.) who were on Sanchez's level that could get.the job done.

I don't think Sanchez looked particularly good against Nelson. His punching power sure did, though.

Think Sanchez could stop Fenech. Just think his long smooth punching style would be hell for Jeff, who I dont think had the greatest of chins, in that he could be buzzed, but I think Salvador would stun him and keep him stunned.

A fight with the more refined version of Nelson could be interesting.

that one wouldn't bring the momentum, intensity or consistent workrate of the early version, but would be a more skilled pressuring style with headmovement and better countering of his own.Nelson was just too open and unaware of his surroundings when he threw against Sanchez, but i'm not sure if he would be skilled enough to win a slower paced more technical fight either.

True, Greg, but on the flipside I thought the young Nelson gave Sanchez murder with little defence or head movement basically just by throwing clusters of fast, frantic punches. Fenech didn't quite have the younger Nelson's chin or power, but he had a better defence and was a more polished fighter imo. Not an easy night's work for Sal at all imo, but I wouldn't argue that he should be considered at least a slight favourite with a chance of getting a stoppage. I do think Fenech had a formidable chin though until Nelson cracked it in the rematch; it'd be interesting to see how it held up against Sanchez's very good, underrated power and his countering accuracy as well as if Sanchez could work room for himself and get enough leverage to punch with Fenech relentlessly swarming and mauling him on the inside.

the Arguello that fought Marcel, Olivares and Hernandez would be a 50/50 imo.

We never saw Sanchez against a brutal bodypuncher like that. Most of the better fighters and certainly better punchers were headhunters.

Gomez an exception, but he didn't have the thin man's durability to stand in there and tear his ribcage to pieces.

I think Nelson was quite explosive with his pressure though, in tha as you say 'fast, frantic', but fenech despite being fast and frantic, he is much more consistent with it, I mean, hes always in front of you. But yeh, I do ge your points there.

I just see Fenech getting countered coming in and it stopping his advances.

Fenech was slower than Sal with his punches, which might be a big issue for him over the second half of the fight as his legs slow slightly.

I've read Jeff described as a fast puncher by numerous good posters, but for me he had average handspeed.

I can see him giving Sal a very awkward tough fight if he's at his very best. But more so by using his awkward movement well and fighting on the move, with sudden bull rushes and flashes of punches.

You never know with feather Olivares. He could get hammered too, or end up starching Sal with a few bodyshots out of nowhere.
