I would say Holyfield falls slightly short of great. He was a great icon of the era, but was not a great fighter, merely superb.

I do not see a victory or defeat over an unproven Ibragimov doing anything for his legacy. Unless Holyfield wins the Heavyweight Championship for a third time he will fall slightly short of great IMO.

Ibragimov, because Holyfield winning would be embarassing for boxing and secondly it might cause it would open a dangerous can of worms, like the possibility of Holyfield fighting someone like Wlad, although I think Wlad has too much respect for Holyfield to step in and destroy him at this stage of his career

But I think Ibragimov is going to pummel Evander. He might not be great but Sultan is much better than anyone Holyfield has fought since he got outclassed by Donald

Holyfield for two reasons.

One, Holyfield is one of my favorite fighters.

Two, Ibragimov is overrated as all hell. I hope he gets exposed.

The Old Holy Warrior will do it! Hate to say it but Ibragimov is just an overachieving bum.

Ach...

I have much more respect for Holyfield, it's not even in the same league.

On the other hand, a win for Sultan would be better for the division's credibility and would halt Holyfield's inevitable date with the fists of a serious and uncompromising heavy hitter on his Quixotic quest for unification.

If I thought Holyfield would retire if he won the belt, it'd be simple...but I know he'll not only continue, he'll see this act as justification to carry on even if he gets knocked out twice in a row afterwards.

...I really can't pick. Fence-sitting I know, but I see the good and bad in both outcomes.

Alot of people say its better for Sultan to win.

IS IT?

Ultimately what credibility will he bring to the division? Dominance? Will he beat Wlad or Vitali or Peter?

In Holy you have history, a name and maybe this is what will finally rid boxing of Holy. He can win the title, get destroyed by Wlad and then say he was five time champ.

A win for Sultan will bring a shred of credibility. If this version of Holyfield, 44 years old, having lost badly to the last 3 decent opponents he fought, having no wins over a rated opponent since 2002, wins, it's an embarassment that he was able to capture even a fraction of the heavyweight title.

But, again, I think people are seriously underestimating Ibragimov if they actually think he's going to lose to Holyfield. Sultan may not be great but he's easily the best opponent Holyfield has fought since he lost to Donald

And if Holyfield fought Wlad or Vitali or Peter and was beaten up and badly injured it would just give boxing's critics that much more ammo

Is this true?

Foreman and Holmes had a bunch of average wins, a loss or two and maybe one good win.

Holyfield has a bunch of average wins, a loss or two and did beat Oquendo who should be ranked fairly well. Holy comp is less than Holmes and Foremans but Ibrag is less than Mercer and Moorer.

I agree Ibrag has the youth and tools to beat Holy at this age but I am hoping he hasn't got any size and thus Holy is in it. Late in the fight, while behind, Holy musters it ALL up in one LEFT HOOK!

I'm going for the underdog but its a great story and I'm a sucker for hype.

Foreman and Holmes during their comeback runs never got dominated in near-shutout fashion by a aging former contender like Donald, and neither were dominated and stopped by a former middleweight

For one, Holmes never regained a portion of the title, he lost to Holyfield and McCall in his two title shots in his comeback attempt.

Second, Foreman prior to beating Moorer on his comeback journey had only lost to Holyfield, the champ, and Morrison, a respected and talented contender in his prime
