Fair enough, it just amazes me that Tucker doesn't feature regardless, it should be a natural instinct to put him in there- A paper champion if there ever was one.

Wasn't Buster Mathis Sr. The WBA champ, and Frazier beat the daylights out of him to unify with the New york version of the title?

Buster MAthis was a fat guy who could box a little.

No mate. He beat Mathis for the vacant NY, then Jimmy Ellis for the WBA.

I could see Patterson being considered for this list too. Which reminds me, Johannson is a candidate for this list as well IMO.

Tucker is a hard fighter to assess because even though he didn't have as distinguished wins as some of the fighters here, he didn't have the ultra-embarrassing losses that most of them had either. The only losses he had in the span of a decade or so were to Tyson and Lennox, and he went the distance with both of them.

Are you kidding? People loved Patterson in the 50's and 60's. He was nowhere near this list man.

Think Jack Dempsey should be there some were. Ducking the number 1 contender for 7 years in a row, goes nearly 5 years with out a defense. Fights soft and over rated fighters like Firpo??

And has problems putting the smack down on middleweights like Tommy Gibbions.
All Hype and no great deeds. Its a good thing Gene Tunney put a end to that mess.

I'm still not so sure Jack Johnson should not make that list. After all, two of those included on the list DEFEATED him. During his title reign he beats one middleweight (after getting KD'd), almost loses to another middle, gets his biggest pelt off a guy who had not fought in 6 years and had to lose 100lbs, then gets a very questionable draw against a .500 fighter. Quite a reign.

He probably doesn't belong on the list, but him being loved or not has fuck all to do with it. Johansson is a candidate for the list, though.

Agreed.

He was a tomato picking champion with a glass chin, blew his title to another weak champion, and couldn't get out of the first round with Liston no matter how hard he tried. Maybe he falls short of this list, but he isn't exempt from consideration.

Jimmy Ellis would crack John Ruiz and many on this list. Even though the guy was more of a natural light-heavyweight fighter, he had some serious pop in his right hand. Don't forget he also fought in one of the most competive and formative years of heavyweight boxing.
