Default Power Outage!!

Where have all the British Bangers gone?

Watching the Sky Sports KO program last night served as a stark reminder that these shores, home to some of the most explosive punchers in history are severely lacking in the KO department.

Who are your top ten British punchers?
Why the sudden decline?

My List
1. David Haye
2. Enzo Macca
3. Carl Froch
4. Ricky Hatton
5. Jon Thaxton
6. Danny Williams
7. Amir Khan
8. Ryan Rhodes
9. Jamie Moore
10. Joe Calzaghe

Mentions for Kell Brook, Henry Castle, Alex Arthur, Micheal Gomez, Paul Appleby...

My thoughts on the decline are that the AMs are heavily weighted to scoring points. Additionally the BBBC are very fast to ban anyone incapable of looking after themselves. Also most of the promotional outfits are very keen to test there charges with the various durable journeyman types... These guys know how to look after themselves.

the name was good too!

British boxing could really do with another Naz growing up I always gravitated more to irish fighters and the HW division but the exception was Naz.

Always watched his fights used to go to my aunts house to stay the night when he was on sky sports/PPV

Its a terrible shame.

@jeff do you think many durable journey men could have taken Naz's power? Hes probably the exception to the rule though....

although it raises a good point would kiko martinez have had such a high KO rate if he fought in the uk from turning pro?

Naz was a creative dynamic puncher. Theres just none about at the moment. Sure there are hard hitters but guys like Wayne Alexander, Naz there a real rarity- inreasingly so....

darren barker and john duddy at middle are fairly big bangers as well

your right about the am's as well, just point scoring punchers all the time, more so at international level than club level though

I got the impression last night that all we have is guys that can't take any kind of body punch.

I was a wee bit depressed after watching that show last night. Would need to see it again before articulating it properly though.

Love watching fighters who have natural power, the type that are surprised themselves when they clip someone, or catch them with nothing more than an arm punch and lay them out. Back in the late 90s used to love watching paul samuels who was deffo a limited fighter skills wise but had that natural power to starch a guy.

Things must be bad when Joe Calzaghe is number 10.

I think another issue is the amount of journeymen guys are fighting - some of them, like Mitchell and Murray have well over 20 fights and barely left those ranks until this year.

Guys like Buckley and Baz Carey tend to know what they are about and can take decent fighters the distance.

For me, a top class prospect knocks those kind of guys out - Hatton, Haye, Calzaghe and Froch splattered journeymen earlier in their careers. The ones that don't tend to rack up a few KO's early fall short.

Munroe and Napa are probably the next two that will step up from Euro level, and will most likely fall short due to their lack of power.

Another issue - for me anyways..... is the large number of four round fights that are taking place. I can't stand them, I remember Adam Booth on boxing hour saying how he hated them because you can't learn as much as you would in a six-rounder.

I will think of a list and post it in a bit.

Matthew Hall should be in amongst them I think Jeff. Maybe Paul Smith, he can dig a bit.
